WHY?
Blue Sparkle Stabilised Chlorine Granules are the most popular method of sanitising spa water. Your Spa needs to be chlorinated at all times. Never use your spa without first testing your spa water. The ideal Chlorine level is between 3 parts per million (ppm) & 5ppm.
WHEN?
Test the Chlorine levels of your spa water at least twice per week & before every use.
HOW?
Test the Chlorine levels of your spa. If it is below 3ppm then apply as follows:
- Pre-dissolve the required amount of granules in a clean plastic bucket filled with warm water. Stir the solution until the granules are fully dissolved.
- Ensure that your spa circulation pump is turned on before slowly pouring the solution directly onto the spa water surface.
- Continue to run your spa circulation pump for 15 minutes.
- Re-test your spa water and repeat dosage until the Chlorine reading is between 3ppm and 5ppm 4ppm.
- Allow 15 minutes before using your spa.
HOW MUCH?
As a general guide, to increase a 1500L spa from 0 ppm to 4ppm you will need to add at least 12g of chlorine granules a heaped teaspoon holds approximately 8g of chlorine granules

Test Strip
A well maintained spa will give you many hours of relaxation and enjoyment. To enable you to get the most from your spa you need to spend a short time testing the water chemistry and, if required, make the necessary adjustments. Your spa will need to be checked regularly for both Sanitiser and Water Balance. Ideally you should check your spa daily for pH and Sanitiser levels. Always check your spa before it is used, never use the spa if the sanitiser level is below its recommended level.
Spa manufacturers may use ppm (parts per million) or mg/\ (milligrams per liter) when refering to the quantity of chemicals in spa water. Both measurements are the same, for example, 100ppm is identical to 100mg/l.
Test Strips offer the simplest means of testing spa water and are becoming increasingly popular. The Test Strip can be submerged in the spa water directly and a test result can be obtained within 30 seconds. The most commonly used Spa Test Strips incorporate Free Chlorine/Bromine, pH and Total Alkalinity.
